Essential Oil Blends to Diffuse for the Holidays

This is one of the best times of years and filled with the smells that take us to happy places! It all starts with fall, the crisp leaves, pine needles of the northern woods, warm soups and pies, hot cocoa, etc…I could really go on! The best way to enjoy these smells even when you’re not baking is to diffuse different blends at home, in your car, office, or wherever!

I have a car diffuser so it’s really fun to try out different blends because I usually go through it pretty quick versus the home diffuser I feel guilty tossing any left over oil blend out. With that being said, I have compiled some of my favorite blends!

What Brands to Use?

There are so many brands out there so it can be hard to choose.  First, you need to decide how much you want to spend, but be cautious as too cheap, means too cheap of a product and not 100% essential oil.  I love using my Rocky Mountain Oils as they are all 100% pure oils and now they actually have a ton of new certified organic oils.  Here is a great reference to other top oil brands.

Why Use Essential Oils instead versus Commercial Brand Fresheners

After changing my lifestyle to be more green, I can completely notice the difference between an essential oil freshener and a store bought product. If you purchase a good quality essential oil, they are made of 100% oils from plants! The smell from essential oils is a much crisper, cleaner smell versus the musk smell from a commercially purchased brand spray.

Did you know some commercial fresheners are actually designed to put an oily coat of fragrance into our nasal passages? Whether you are trying to mask other odors or just create a positive vibe in your house, that sounds disgusting! And your guests won’t be able to get the same effect you are unless you both are smooching and they breathe in up your nose.

The chemicals in commercial brand products are extremely harmful to your family, friends, pets, and anyone else who comes in contact with them! Personally, I do not like to use commercial brands because of my pets. With commercial brands, I used to walk around the house spraying joyously through the air with my air freshener, not realizing that some of the spritz has gone into their water bowl, or that they lick everything, walk on the spritz, then lick their feet and so on.  I wouldn’t want to lick or drink chemicals so why should my pets, even though they think it tastes delicious.

There was a study done in 2005 that tested several air fresheners and they then measured the amount of VOC’s in the air. There were hundreds of chemicals ranging from benzene, formaldehyde, styrene, and phthalates, just to name a few. Check out the study.
